Evaluation
 
 

 I try to involve students as much as possible in the evaluation process.   What follows are descriptions of student-generated “qualities of good writing” which I use as grading criteria.  I also include a description of how portfolios are constructed and graded as well as questions for self-evaluation.
 I much prefer not to grade my own students’ papers.  I have teamed up with a like-minded person and exchanged portfolios.  When I do this, I have to leave the grading criteria constant and the students don’t have the opportunity to generate it, only approve it.  This article provides a fuller explanation of the grading process.   Seeing Beyond the Student to the Writer
