Emotional Words Activity

Brainstorm words on the board that refer to emotions or concepts (e.g. love, hate, greed, isolation, pride, generosity, etc. )  Choose two of these words.  For each, write a scene or a description which suggests that emotion or concept.  It can be fun to read these aloud to guess which word inspired them.  Discuss how it is more effective to show than to tell. Look for places in your writing where you tell, rather than show, the emotional content.
