Special Events

MedSoc makes an annual pilgrimage in October to King Richard's Faire in Carver, MA.

We also help host the annual Medieval and Renaissance Forum in April.

And there are other special events, big and small. Our weekly meetings will sometimes feature a medieval-themed movie, charades, chain mail and glass etching workshops, and more.

NYC: The Cloisters and the MET- April 4-5, 2008

We went, we saw, we conquered: after an eventful Friday night of learning the ancient art of blacksmithing using Monarch Dana's home forge, officers of MedSoc journeyed to NYC to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the MET's extension, the Cloisters in Fort Tryton Park. Tai Chi Demo - April 2008

Many thanks to Darcy Cushing, Tai Chi instructer at PSU, for giving the Medieval Society a chance to learn about this ancient art! There are many forms, but members learned the beginning moves of the Slow Set and watched as Cushing gave a fantastic demonstration of Tai Chi First Knife. Check out our Photo page to see more on this event!

Forum 28: April 2007

Medieval Society members help out with the Forum every year, decorating Rounds and elsewhere on campus, assisting the visiting scholars, and organizing fun events like the live chess match, and workshops and demonstrations. In 2007 we had our first longbow archery demonstration and also a medieval combat demonstration.
