About the Medieval Society

A group founded by students and faculty with a shared interest in the people, culture and history of the Middle Ages. Come join the merriment during our weekly meetings! Wednesday nights at 8:00 PM in Rounds 203 during the semester.

A Medieval Society has existed in some form for as long as anyone can remember, perhaps since the days of Plymouth Normal School (founded in 1871). A Medieval Studies Council was formed at Plymouth State in 1971, and the current student Medieval Society dates back to that era.

One stated goal of the society was to raise awareness of Plymouth State (then Plymouth State College, today Plymouth State University) as a center for Medieval Studies. Plymouth State hosts a Humanities major with a Medieval and Renaissance concentration, an annual Medieval and Renaissance Forum, and, of course, this student Medieval Society.

MedSoc members come from a variety of majors, and have a wide variety of interests. They share an interest in the study of the people and cultures of the Middle Ages and Renaissance.

Many members are also in gaming club and interested in role playing, etc.

Anyone in the Plymouth network is welcome to join MedSoc's Facebook group. Please join! But only dues paying members who attend five meetings per semester are eligible for all the amazing benefits of membership. Contact our Monarch, Chancellor, or another member of our hierarchy for more details.

Special events include the Medieval Feast at the Forum in April, and an annual pilgrimage to King Richard's Faire.
