OUTREACH PROGRAMS
In addition to the Minor in Canadian Studies, Plymouth State College offers extensive outreach programs designed to suit the needs of teachers in the new England region. A four day Summer Seminar on Canada is held in mid-July. Participants spend one day on the Plymouth State College campus and a weekend in either Montreal, Quebec City, Ottawa or the Eastern Townships.
The College also sponsors an Annual Canada Conference which is held on the first Friday of November. This conference like the Seminar is designed to increase awareness and appreciation of the Canadian Fact in north America and to explore areas of mutual interest and concern. Both the Workshop and the Conference carry Staff Development credits for teachers. Graduate credit may also be obtained for participation in these events.
The Canada Club at Plymouth State College is also very active. It sponsors a State-wide Canada Essay Contest for grades 5-7. 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes are given to the winners along with a trophy. Teachers of the winning contestants are also rewarded with reduced costs in the other outreach programs . The Canada Club is a sanctioned organization of the Student Government and makes annual field trips to Canada (Montreal, Eastern Townships, Quebec City.) It is open to all students and faculty with an interest in Canada. Club members are usually drawn from French and Social Science students but other students are welcome.
