Splitboarding

Splitboarding is the most physically demanding type of snowboarding,

but often times can be the most rewarding. People that splitboard will

sometimes travel miles just to have one untouched run of fresh snow. Now,

what is a splitboard? A splitboard is exactly what it sounds like, its essentially

a snowboard that has been cut in half right down the middle, into a pair of skis.

The bindings are then rotated to be set up similar to what ski bindings would be.

The heel lifts up and the binding is attatched in the front so when you take a step,

the plank stays flat on the ground and you can somewhat walk normally. Skins are

also placed on the bottoms of the planks to allow for a smooth glide up the hill but

grabs the snow when it tries to slide down. When you get to the top you take the

skins off the bottoms of each plank, and you take the bindings off. The two planks

are then pieced back together by a couple of fastening points and then the bindings

are re-attatched how they would be on a normal snowbard, securing the two planks

together. You then ride down the mountain that you have just "skinned" up to get your

"earned turns". The people that splitboard are the "hardcore" snowboardrs.

They don't want to spend any money at a big corporation resort, and they don't want

to be surround by a massive crowd of tourists, which is understandable.
